After six season Guideline wrapped earlier this year, we all desperately hoped that this is not the end fo Steve, Kate and their joke gaffer supervisor General Hastings .

But creator Jed Mercurio admitted that there were currently no plans "in place" for another series, having often been open to fans about the show's status.

He suggested he would be more than up and running to consider something if there was a way to make it happen, but was keen to stress that nothing is happening at the moment.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast , Mercurio said, “  We're all thrilled with the response to season six, it went so well .

“  It's fantastic to be a part of something like this, a once in a lifetime experience that the cast and I all really enjoyed being a part of.

“  If there was a way, we would obviously take this seriously, but to be honest with you, at the moment we don't have a plan in place.

Charlotte Moore, chief content officer for the BBC, said in a statement in May : “Addictive event television, Line of Conduct has been guessing the nation for the past seven weeks, so it's no surprise that the final cut last night's blast set an audience record.

“Jed Mercurio is a master at his craft, and I want to congratulate him, along with the cast and crew, for delivering such an incredible drama series.

“I can't wait to have a conversation with the team about where the next step is and what the future of the series could be. "

Either way, Mercurio has other projects on hand, including a new series called Trigger Point - which sees him reunite with Line of Conduct star Vicky McClure as she takes on the role of bomb disposal officer. , and will probably be on screen "early next year".

In his interview with BBC Breakfast , Mercurio added: “  And then I kind of take stock of what I'm going to do next - so a lot of things maybe in the works, it's a very exciting time. "

He also spoke about his new sci-fi graphic novel Sleeper , which he wrote alongside author Prasanna Puwanarajah .
