Rina Sawayama fans have noticed similarities between Olivia Rodrigo's Brutal video and the XS visual.

Olivia Rodrigo is currently under fire over accusations that she scammed Rina Sawayama with the 'Brutal' video.

Yesterday (August 23), Olivia Rodrigo surprised fans by posting a visual for Sour the popular opening track 'Brutal'. Directed by Petra Collins, who Olivia previously worked with on the 'Good 4 U' video, 'Brutal' sees Olivia let loose her teenage angst as she plays a variety of different characters: schoolgirl, news anchor, star social media, ballet dancer and overworked pop star.

In the popstar scenes of the 'Brutal' video, Olivia can be seen doing manic product placement for a fake drink called 'The Golden Years'. Fans immediately noticed that it was reminiscent of scenes from the Rina XS music video in which she also advertises a fake drink. People also pointed out that Olivia's newsreader scene is almost exactly the same as Rina's down to the outfits.

In response to the video, Rina's fans began sharing side-by-side photos comparing the two. One person tweeted: “Look, I love Olivia Rodrigo, but why does this look so much like a direct rip off of Rina Sawayama's visuals? Another fan wrote, "Olivia didn't just copy rina into the mv, she also did the SAME intro to the song as xs, think about it [sic]".

Whether it was Olivia or Petra, her music video director, consciously took inspiration from Rina has yet to be revealed. As it stands, Olivia and Rina have yet to respond to the comparisons. We'll keep you posted if they do.
