Assassin's Creed III: Liberation (PS Vita)Assassin's Creed III: Liberation (PS Vita)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft Sofia

Release date: October 30, 2012 ( UNITED STATES ) / October 30, 2012 ( UNITED KINGDOM / EU )

Originally released alongside Assassin's Creed III, Assassin's Creed III: Liberation is an often forgotten part of the Ubisoft series. The game puts you in the shoes of Aveline de Grandpré, the franchise's first lead actress. She scours the city of New Orleans in search of members of the Order of the Templars, who have all kinds of nefarious plans in place. The game also features a unique mechanic, in that Aveline can wear different disguises to infiltrate on specific missions.

Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry (PS4)Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry (PS4)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft

Release date: February 18, 2014 ( US ) / February 18, 2014 ( UK / EU )

Originally an expansion for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry focuses on Adéwale, Edward Kenway's sea ally. The former slave Adéwalé sets out on his own journey to sabotage the plans of the Templars in Haiti. A brutal and bloody campaign ensues, as the stoic protagonist mobilizes against the slave trade and against those who would perpetuate it.

Assassin's Creed Rogue (PS3)Assassin's Creed Rogue (PS3)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft Sofia

Release date: November 11, 2014 ( US ) / November 14, 2014 ( UK / EU )

Assassin's Creed Rogue takes the blueprint from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - with its naval battles and island-hopping exploration - but it tells a slightly darker story. The main character and former Assassin Shane Cormac are lacking in the Order of the Templars, and you'll actually have to fight against the Brotherhood throughout this morally weighted adventure.

Assassin's Creed Unity (PS4)Assassin's Creed Unity (PS4)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft Montreal

Release date: November 11, 2014 ( US ) / November 14, 2014 ( UK / EU )

Assassin's Creed Unity is widely regarded as a weak spot for the Ubisoft series, mainly because of the appalling conditions in which the game was launched. Riddled with bugs and performance issues on PS4, Unity's technical glitches crippled an otherwise impressive sandbox title. Set during the French Revolution, Unity's reenactment of Paris is often breathtaking and its history is full of political intrigue. The surprisingly ambitious co-op missions and online components of the game are also worth mentioning, but they have largely been overlooked in the grand scheme of things.

Assassin's Creed (PS3)Assassin's Creed (PS3)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft Montreal

Release date: November 14, 2007 ( US ) / November 16, 2007 ( UK / EU )

The title that gave birth to one of the most popular properties in modern gaming, Assassin's Creed tells the story of Altair, a member of the Brotherhood of Assassins. Blending a historic Holy Land setting with basic gameplay mechanics like social stealth and the all-important Hidden Blade, this original version laid the foundation for Ubisoft's hugely successful series. It's fair to say that its sequels dramatically improve most of Assassin's Creed's attempts, but that's still where it all started.

Assassin's Creed III (PS3)Assassin's Creed III (PS3)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft Montreal

Release date: October 30, 2012 ( UNITED STATES ) / October 31, 2012 ( UNITED KINGDOM / EU )

A break from Ezio and his daring escapades, Assassin's Creed III was sort of a new starting point for the sandbox series. The game's opening acts are extremely slow - a feature that would draw a lot of criticism - but this story of the American Revolution is underpinned by an intriguing setting and catchy rhythms. Protagonist Connor Kenway isn't the liveliest of Assassins, but his stoic demeanor matches the seriousness of the game. An episode that is a bit divisive, all told, but there's always fun to be found, especially in these. brutal combat animations!

Assassin's Creed Syndicate (PS4)Assassin's Creed Syndicate (PS4)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft Quebec

Release date: October 23, 2015 ( US ) / October 23, 2015 ( UK / EU )

The first game in the series to feature both male and female protagonists, Assassin's Creed Syndicate came at a time when Ubisoft had to play it safe, following the much-criticized launch of Assassin's Creed Unity a year earlier. Syndicate is set in London during the Industrial Revolution, making it quite a rich and interesting (but very unhealthy) backdrop. Chiefs Jacob and Evie Frye are tasked with taking control of the English capital, district by district. Spot plenty of skull-cracking fistfights, cockney accents, and brutal stealth kills.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations (PS3)Assassin's Creed: Revelations (PS3)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft Montreal

Release date: November 14, 2011 ( US ) / November 16, 2011 ( UK / EU )

The third and final installment of the "Ezio Trilogy," Assassin's Creed Revelations features an older Ezio who is determined to uncover the truth behind the once-old organization he now heads. It's a darker story, perhaps more serious than what you'll find in previous games, as Ezio comes to terms with the violent legacy he will one day leave behind. From a gameplay perspective, Revelations builds on its predecessors in a number of ways, introducing new tools like the hook blade and throwable bombs, while pushing dynamic elements like random world events.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla (PS5)Assassin's Creed Valhalla (PS5)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft Montreal

Release date: November 12, 2020 ( UNITED STATES ) / November 12, 2020 ( UNITED KINGDOM / EU )

In many ways, Assassin's Creed Valhalla is like a mix of Origins and Odyssey. Like Origins, there is a lot more emphasis on storytelling in this epic Viking saga. But like Odyssey, Valhalla relies heavily on extensive RPG mechanics, such as leveling, gear, and skill trees. You play as Eivor, a vision-haunted Viking warrior who leaves Norway to establish a new home in 9th-century England. Featuring a lush open world teeming with all manner of landmarks and secrets, Valhalla is a true well of a game's time, but its story-driven acts offer some of the best characters and storytelling rhythms in all of the world. series.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey (PS4)Assassin's Creed Odyssey (PS4)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft

Release date: October 5, 2018 ( US ) / October 5, 2018 ( UK / EU )

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is much more of an open-world RPG than a traditional Assassin's Creed title. The second installment in the series' 'open world trilogy', this ancient Greek adventure may ignore much of the game design that defined its predecessors, but there's no denying that its nested RPG systems deliver a deep and engaging experience. Leveling up, loot, skill trees, and random stuff like bounty hunter mercenaries all play a part on a truly massive map. The story isn't bad either, as protagonist Alexios or Kassandra sets out on a diverse journey to uncover the truth about his legendary lineage.

Assassin's Creed Origins (PS4)Assassin's Creed Origins (PS4)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft

Release date: October 27, 2017 ( US ) / October 27, 2017 ( UK / EU )

A breathtaking recreation of ancient Egypt is the backdrop for Assassin's Creed Origins, a game that redefined Ubisoft's series. Moving into the open world and incorporating a bunch of RPG systems, Origins breathed new life into Assassin's Creed after Unity and Syndicate struggled to leave a lasting impression. Origins follows the surprisingly moving story of Bayek, a determined mystic and warrior, who, with the help of his ex-wife Aya, establishes the Hidden Ones - the forerunner organization that would one day become the Brotherhood of Assassins.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (PS3)Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (PS3)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft Montreal

Release date: November 16, 2010 ( UNITED STATES ) / November 19, 2010 ( UNITED KINGDOM / EU )

A direct sequel to the beloved Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood has refined many of the gameplay elements that II popularized. Smooth combat, enhanced stealth possibilities, and a stunning recreation of Rome make Brotherhood stand out. And, of course, Ezio Auditore da Firenze is back - arguably with even more swagger - and this time he's the spearhead of the Assassins Ballooning Guild in Italy. Perhaps the most famous mechanic in the game is the ability to bring in these newbie killers both in combat and out of combat, which really feels like you're building a brotherhood.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (PS4)Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (PS4)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft Montreal

Release date: November 15, 2013 ( US ) / November 29, 2013 ( UK / EU )

It's a pirate's life for Edward Kenway, the charismatic but troubled protagonist of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Taking control of your own ship and crew, this is a perfectly done hack simulation with typical Assassin stuff for good measure. An impressive naval combat system makes exploring the high seas a real pleasure, and boarding Imperial ships for swashbuckling battles simply never gets old. Outside of those tedious tail missions, Black Flag is a first-class Assassin's Creed title.

Assassin's Creed II (PS3)Assassin's Creed II (PS3)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft Montreal

Release date: November 17, 2009 ( UNITED STATES ) / November 19, 2009 ( UNITED KINGDOM / EU )

Assassin's Creed II is the game that put Ubisoft's series on the map. It improved on everything its predecessor introduced, with a more in-depth social, combat, and mission design. The story was also a success, following the rise of beloved protagonist Ezio Auditore da Firenze. After his father and brothers are framed and executed, Ezio embarks on a twisted, spinning quest for revenge against the Templars - a cult-like organization that seeks to control society behind the scenes. With brilliantly crafted Renaissance Italy as a backdrop, Assassin's Creed II remains a memorable and atmospheric PS3 classic.
